In Castletownbere, the sea shapes everything – our work, our community and the way we live. Shellfish Ireland began here in 1987, when two young fishermen, driven by their love of the ocean and the pride of a perfectly cooked catch, set out to share the flavour of their hometown with others. What started as a small family venture is now three generations deep and is growing into one of Ireland’s most trusted producers of sustainable crab, shrimp, lobster and prawns – supplying partners across Ireland and to over 16 countries around the world.

Fishing for the future
Sustainability isn’t just part of what we do – it’s the foundation of our business. All of our shellfish are sourced responsibly, using traditional crab pots that protect the seabed and ensure only the right catch is brought ashore. For us, caring for the ocean means more than safe fishing practices. It means minimising waste, respecting natural cycles and safeguarding the waters around Casteltownbere and up and down the coast of Ireland for the generations to come.
